Zuni found her forever home June 8, 2008

An update from her new family June 2009:

Well it been a year, and Zuni hasn't moved on, or even tried to leave, she is a great dog (we think...) On multiple occasions I have had people ask if she is a wolf, any more I say "yeah, a Siberian Wolf". Then again Linda and I wonder if she is part Siberian Husky, part Siberian Pointer and part Siberian Retriever, boy can she hunt. We take her for a walk at a land preserve that has a mix of woods and tall grass, with trails cut through. We walk Zuni on a 20 foot leash, giving her some room to explore. It is interesting to watch her track smells, stop and raise a front paw and point, then lunge forward. In most cases its nothing, but so far she has caught 3 mice (ate 2 of them), 2 box turtles, not sure what she was going to do with them, and her best....a 1 month old baby deer sleeping in the tall grass. Zuni didn't hurt the deer and dropped it on command.

Speaking of which, I took her to obedience school, to quote the instructor, "for a husky she did very well!" And she did, in most cases, couple of times she exerted her husky right to be stubborn. Once we were walking our dogs clock-wise, Zuni decided to go counter clocker-wise. Had to stop her, and pick her up and point her in the right direction, at least she was good for a laugh.

Health wise Zuni is doing good, no major events with her bowels, she eats well and enjoys being outside during the day. We keep her in at night because of the night life around the area, fox, raccoon, Ferrell cats, just don't need any problems.

Hope all is well, and hopefully we'll see you in September if you have the event walk again.

Thanx for bringing Zuni into our lives.

-Mark & Linda.

An update from her new family July 2010:

Hope all is well and you're surviving this weather, definitely NOT husky weather, but boy was this past winter husky friendly.

It's been awhile and thought we'd let know how Zuni is doing, in a nutshell GREAT. She enjoys being inside with us, instead of out in your pen. We take her out in the AM, she does her morning business, then right to the gate to go back in. Right now I don't blame her with this heat. Health wise she's doing good, Zuni is at 50 pounds, right were the Vet wants her, she's not a big eater, which is good. We've only had one issue in the past year with the colitis, the antibiotics clear her up in a couple of days.

One scary story, with a good ending, a couple of weeks ago we had a major storm blow through here were we lost power for a couple of days. With the power generator running and neighbors coming, by Zuni got upset and got away from us. We watched Zuni run up the street racing cars, what a scary sight. The only thought I had was the "last thing I'll remember of Zuni is her being hit by a car." Long story short, a neighbor was able to distract her, I did my best middle linebacker tackle and got her...Andy Reed would have been proud, Zuni wasn't too happy that I grabbed a hand full of hair, but we got her!!! And all is well.

Overall getting Zuni has been great for her and us, we really enjoy her, she's great company. Even the cat is more tolerant of her, Misty still leaves a few of her treats for Zuni. The cat has Zuni trained, as soon as Zuni comes in she runs to the kitchen where Misty leaves a few of her treats.

Attached are a few pics, one is in a Nature Preserve where we walk every afternoon. The second is a tree that has some squirrels living in, we walk by this tree every evening. Zuni has to stop and see if the squirrels are home. There third is of her favorite spot, on the couch, keeping an eye on Linda and I.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and hopefully we'll see you in September.

-Mark & Linda

p.s. Zuni just came up to the office and says WOOF!
